It is common for people to simply step on a bathroom scale and thereafter take major decisions their state of health. It is, however, important to note that checking your weight alone is not enough. It is now universally accepted that the Body Mass Index (BMI) is a far better measure for the determining how healthy the weight of an individual is at any particular point in time. It is also very useful in comparing weight among people, since it is standardized against the height. The formula for calculating BMI is

A simpler way of doing this calculation is to divide weight (in kg) by height and divide again by height (in m). If you’re not using S.I. units, you can use a BMI Calculator, which utilizes the pounds (lbs) and foot (ft./in.) system as well as does the calculations for you.

If your BMI is anything between 18.5 and 24.5, you have a healthy weight. If you find yourself to be above or below this range, it would be advisable for you to take corrective action. God Bless!
